Originally grown by the Arikara Indians. Seed collected by Melvin Gilmore. Very sturdy and tall plants grow 10-12' tall. A mixture of single and multi-headed plants. The seeds were traditionally parched in a clay pot and then pounded to make sunflower meal. The meal was then formed into sunflower seed balls that warriors would carry with them, wrapped in buffalo heart skin, and eat as an energy food when they felt weak or tired. A great historic variety for your garden. Stunning when planted as a screen or back drop in your garden. Large lemon-yellow petals and dark chocolate colored centers.

Create a stunning and impressive natural border in your yard or garden with this enormous sunflower variety.  One of the largest varieties known, these plants will grow 12-14' tall and display spectacular 16-18"  bright yellow flowers.  The super long seeds (1-11/2") are great for eating. This sunflower is most commonly used for pressing sunflower seed oil and a must-have for bird lovers! Meatier and higher in oil than other sunflowers, these seeds provide birds with a high-calorie, nutrient-dense snack! Plus, their thinner shells make it easier for small birds to crack up. Growing between 4-5’ feet tall, the Peredovic Sunflower is an easy way to make any area in your garden or home beautiful! A handsome Japanese heirloom. Single headed, sturdy 5-6' tall plants.
